Madrid workshop - Accelerating engaged journalism
This event brought together 30 practitioners of engaged journalism from across Europe and led to fruitful discussions about how to manage the engagement process and how to make the business case for community engagement. We're grateful to those who gave up their time to participate.
Insights from the day have been captured in a report, What would journalism look like if it was generated from within communities?, which contains five key recommendations for involving the community in your coverage. It is available to download for free.

The Engaged Journalism Accelerator will gather over thirty journalists, researchers, and civic engagement practitioners in Madrid for a hands-on workshop.
Over two days, the group will explore ways that news organisations across Europe can integrate engagement into their reporting processes and business models.
This event is the first of five Accelerator events that seek to support, connect, and inspire the field of community journalism across Europe. You can read more about the Accelerator's mission here.
Learnings from the workshop will be published and shared on this page at a later date.

Session host: Jon Alexander, co-founder, New Citizenship
Words and phrases like "impact" and "theory of change" can seem a long way away from the world of journalism - but the work of defining the impact you want to make, and how you intend to make it, can and should be both very simple and hugely creative. In this session, Jon will present a means for journalists to demonstrate their mission and value.

Coevolution is now much more important than competition or cooperation. In this session, Clare will guide us to work out how to become a ‘keystone’ species: moving in and between economic ecosystems that evolve around you at different speeds and with different shifting influence, and finding ways to contribute and connect to exploit this new competitive advantage.

Coffee break
Plus some time grab some fresh air and check emails.
